90. SURAH AL-BALAD (THE CITY)
(This Surah is Makkan, containing 20
verses and 1 section)
Allah’s Name to commence
with, the Most Gracious, the
Most Merciful.
90:1. I swear an oath by this city
(i.e. Makkah Mukarramah).
90:2. That (because) O Beloved,
you are present in this city.
90:3. And by the oath of your
father Ibrahim, and by his
progeny; that is you (O Beloved).
90:4. We have certainly created
mankind to remain in hardship.
90:5. Does man think that no one
will ever have power over him?

90:6. He says, ‘I have destroyed
huge amounts of wealth.’
90:7. Does man think that no
one saw him?
90:8. Did We not make his two

90:9. And a tongue and two 2
lips? Ho HES
90:10. And We guided him to eats Mle
the two conspicuous paths (of GyrqdlAgess
good and evil).
90:11. Then he did not jump on dat bk te
the steep path without thinking. here 3\38
90:12. And what have you
understood. what the steep path
is?
90:13. (It is) to free a slave.
90:14. Or the feeding on a day
of hunger.
90:15. To an orphan (who is)
the next of kin.
90:16. Or to a poor person lying
in dust (ce. afflicted with misery).

90:17. Then he became one of
those who believed and who
advised patience to one another
and who advised kindness to
one another.
90:18. These are the people of
the right side.
90:19. And those who denied
Our verses, they are the people
of the left side (ie. the evil
ones).
90:20. Upon them is Fire; (after
they are) thrown into it, it is
closed up from above.
